Technical rule DVGW W 410: 2008 provide recommendations for assessment of water consumption and daily and hourly peak factors as the basis for dimensioning of main components in water supply systems. Decades of research have indicated the tendency of reducing water consumption per capita as well as the decrease in peak factors for all types of settlements. Formulas for calculation of daily and hourly peak factors as a function of the population are given based on measurements performed in German towns and communities. German KfW Bank provides funds through donations and favourable credits to improve water supply in towns in Serbia based on such criteria. In the paper, the authors presents their experience in the application of the given rules as well as the relations to domestic recommendations for the dimensioning of the water supply system.
