The aim of this study was to determine the level of cows welfare protection on farms with different rearing systems. Research of cows welfare protection was performed on 5 farms (A, B, C, D, E) of various capacities. The smallest farm was with 18 (B), and the biggest with 80 cows (A). On farm C was 22, D 27, and E 35 cows. Two farms (A and C) represnted the free system of rearing with open stables, while other three farms keep cows in tied system of rearing. The two farms have outlets (A, D), from which outlet on farm A is always available to animals, while the outlet on farm D is used only during the day. Farms B, D and E are with tied keeping of cow, and closed type of stalls. To assess the welfare of cows the method of Bartussek et al. (2000) is applied. This method includes the five most important indicators of welfare. The total number of points, obtained by adding points assigned to all 5 inidcators of welfare, gives the final ANI score. The total number of points on the farm A amounted to 36.5, B 9.5, C 24.5, D 26.5 and E 10.5. The state of the animal welfare on the farms B and E is completely insatisfactory, on the farms C and D is very good, while on the farm A is excellent.
