Some rodent species, with their burrowing activities in search of shelter and food, could cause different levels of bank damages. Their distribution and abundance are correlated to different biotic and abiotic factors. Inventory and monitoring of the species that occupy stream banks represent a significant method that could be used to estimate the number of active and inactive holes which could cause possible deformation of the banks. Water vole, among all rodent species, had the highest influence at four prospected localities: Apatin, Bogojevo, Kamarište and Čelarevo, with the highest population densities in autumn and winter when the highest number of active and inactive holes was recorded, too. The highest population densities this species have had during winter at Kamarište. At locality Čelarevo populations of water voles were in the phase of natural decreasing. However, at Bogojevo and Kamarište water vole population densities were close to the highest values of population densities.
