Oil Refinery Novi Sad was destroyed 1999th and there was a spill of large quantities of oil and oil products on the land. Spilled oil has significant amounts of heavy metals what caused heavy metals contamination of soil. The aim of this study was to examine the application of phytoremediation with different poplar genotypes for the treatment of contaminated soil. The experiment was constructed as greenhouse semi-controlled pot grown poplar plants in soil with varying degrees oil contamination. The effect of oil pollution on changes in soil concentrations of metals and metals in plants, as well as impacts on vitality of plants were investigated. The results showed that there is no single most efficient clone to remove all metal and at all concentrations of pollution.
