Soil organic matter is derived from the degraded plants and living organisms, as well as living organisms that are also part of soil organic matter. To ensure the sustainable land management and to protect the land from degradation, it is necessary to achieve and to maintain soil organic matter at a satisfactory level. To estimate the reserves of soil organic matter and to prevent its further losses it is necessary to collect data and to determine the basic status of organic matter. The examination of the relationship between the type of soil, relief and variable components (organic matter content, climate and land use) is the basis for assessing their impact on the reserves of soil organic matter. For decision makers it is very important to understand the components of land management that have the greatest impact on the amount of organic matter in soil.
