A positive effect of the preparation Cytodef on the growth and cold resistance of thermophilic plants of cucumber and maize was revealed in vegetative experiments. Cytodef was developed by the Institute of Chemical Weed and Pest Killers. The preparation treatment of cucumber and maize seeds showed a cytokinin activity at different concentrations, which was manifested in an increase in germinating capacity, an enhancement of root and shoot growth, and a decrease in chilling injury both at optimum and lowered temperatures. At lowered temperature the efficiency of Cytodef was higher. It is concluded that Cytodef can be recommended for the treatment of cucumber and maize seeds in order to increase the germinating power and to enhance the plant growth in conditions of a lowered temperature
