Causes of chlorosis in ixora plants (lxora coccinea, L.) in specific sites in Khartoum and Kenana, sudan

Chlorotic and Healthy plants of Jungle flame (Ixora Coccinea, L.) were collected from different sites, including Soba, Shambat, Seleite, the Republican palace and kenana. The parameters used for assessment were hydrogen ion concentration, calcium carbonate, available phosphorus, extractable calcium and magnesium, total sodium and micronutrients namely ferrous and manganese, with the objective of finding out the causes of chlorosis in flame of wood. Results indicated that the pH is the main factor since high pH values makes micronutrients unavailable to the plants, therefore; chlorosis in Ixora plants are due to lack of iron in particular, under alkaline conditions. Also there is high positive correlation between CaCo3, total sodium, extractable calcium and pH, and negative correlation between available phosphorus, magnesium and ferrous and pH. Although Ixora is acidic soil loving plants, it can grow normally (healthy) up to pH above 7.9. This might indicates its adaptation to Sudan conditions. Also results indicates entire death of Ixora plants in seleite area is due to high sodium contents ,high calcium carbonate, which lead to high pH ,therefore causes severe chlorosis and ultimately death of plants
