Evaluation of some insecticides for the control of insect pests of potato
2007
Mohamed, E.S., Agricultural Research Corporation, Shambat Research Station, Khartoum (Sudan)
The efficacy of Engeo and Pychlorex was evaluated for two consecutive seasons (2005/06 and 2006/07) at Shambat Research Station Farm for the control of aphid and jassid, while Zork was evaluated for one season (2006/07) against aphid on potato. The lambda-cyhalothrin products, Karate and Kung Fu, were also evaluated during the same seasons against potato cutworm. The three insecticides, Engeo, Pychlorex and Zork, significantly reduced aphid population compared to the untreated control and showed comparable performance to those of the standard (Actara) and the counterpart (Marshal). Engeo significantly reduced jassid population as compared to Pychlorex and the untreated control in the first season (2005/06). All lambda-cyhalothrin treatments significantly reduced cutworm infestation. All tested insecticides treatments, with the exception of Pychlorex in season 2005/06 and the lowest dosage rate of Zork, significantly increased potato yield compared to the untreated control
