In the aim to investigate the effects of alpha -amylase use on performances of broilers, a nutritive trial in group-control system was performed. The trial was performed with one day old broilers of Cobb 500 provenience (n=100), divided into 2 groups (control and experimental). Broilers of control group were fed a diet according to provenience production recommendations. Broilers of experimental group were fed a diet with reduced energy (5 % lower energy that recommended) plus addition of alpha -amylase (DSM Nutritional Products -Holland). The trial lasted 42 days. Body mass was measured at the beginning of the trial as well as on 21st and 42nd day. During entire trial period the consumed feed was measured. All the broilers were of good health and signs of the diseases were not registered during the trial. Daily gain, feed gain ratio and European Production Efficiency Factor (EPEF) were calculated. Based on the obtained results experimental group of broilers achieved higher daily gain (1.95 %), lower feed gain ratio (0.54 % better) and lower cost of feed per kilo of gain with about the same feed intake. Use of feed mixtures with lower energy content supplemented with alpha -amylase in broilers has both health and economical implications and needs further investigation.
