The objective of the study was to evaluate differences in antioxidant properties of selected bee pollen types: Helianthus annuus L., Papaver somniferum L. and Brassica napus subsp. napus L. Analyzed samples were dried at 35 deg C until moisture reached the 9 to 11 %. Antiradical activity was determined by modified DPPH method according to Brand-Williams et al. (1995). Total content of flavonoids was determined according to Chang et al. (2002) method. Differences between selected bee pollen types in antiradical activity and total flavonoids content were specified by correlation analysis. Statistically significant differences (P less than 0.05) within selected samples were determined in case of antiradical activity and total flavonoids content. Average value of scavenger activity was 71.39 ± 16.45 %. In the case of flavonoids content the average value reached 137.56 ± 91.22 mg per kg. The highest value of scavenger activity was detected in Brassica napus subsp. napus L. pollen (1.92-fold higher versus H. annuus L. pollen), whereas Papaver somniferum L. pollen contained the most flavonoids (6.25-fold more versus H. annuus L. pollen). According to our results the antiradical activity of Papaver somniferum L. and Brassica napus subsp. napus L. pollen is classified as pollen with high antiradical activity.
