The field experiment was established in 2007 in The Botanical garden of Slovak Agricultural University in Nitra. We investigated the effect of three different variants of fertilization on the yield of broccoli (used varieties of broccoli: CORONADO F1 and TIBURON F1) and accumulation of nitrates in the broccoli roses. The first variant was without fertilization, the second one had a level of nutriments N:P:K:S=200:40:160 :40 (kg per ha) and the third one was fertilized on level N:P:K:S=250:40:160:40 (kg per ha). The seeds were planted on 31st May 2007 and seedlings were planted in experimental area on 3rd July 2007. The used spacing of outplanting was 0,5x0,5 m. The broccoli harvest was finished on 16th October 2007. Our research confirmed the fact that nitrogen fertilization is very important for gaining higher yield but at the same time it causes higher accumulation of nitrates in the broccoli roses. In comparison with control variant (0) we reached the highest yield at the variant 1 (N=200 kg per ha). The highest content of nitrates was determined at the variant 2 (N=250 kg per ha). At this variant, the content of nitrates exceeded the highest acceptable amount of nitrates according to Food codex of Slovak Republic (1,000 mg per kg of fresh matter).
