Biomass has become one of the most important renewable energy carriers, which mitigates the emissions of greenhouse gases, especially the CO2. The utilization of biomass is limited by various factors, e.g. spread of exploited areas or increase of intensification, which finally cause the increase of external input. One of the possibilities is the exploatation of the biomass of invasive herb species. These are non-native species, which can penetrate into plant communities in a new area, and locally they can replace native species and decrease biodiversity. Therefore, the regulation of these species is necessary. One of the areas of their possible utilization is energy sector. Considering the weight of produced phytomass, Fallopia x bohemica could be such an herb. According to our research, under the conditions of south-western Slovakia it reached the annual yield of 30.7 t per ha 2007 and 26.3 t per ha in dry mass when mown once a year. Its calorific value is 18.4 GJ per t, and the content of ash is 6.5%.
