2009
Vu Viet Ha;Tran Van Cuong
In the period 2000 to 2005, thirty- six independent research surveys using different fishing gears were conducted in Vietnam waters. A total of 38 species belonging to 23 genus in 12 family were statistically recorded. Species richness was observed in the south-eastern area and off-shore waters. Distribution of sharks was species specific. Catch rate and catch composition of shark were relativel low, under 1 kg/h and 1 kg/km net on average of the trawl and gillet surveys, respectively. For the longline surveys, the mean catch rates were estimated from 14 to 19kg/1000 hooks, globally. Stock bioass of shark species in whole Vietnamese waters was estimated to be 23 thousand tons with 11 thousand tons catchable.
