Efficiency of cultivation of millet (Panicum miliaceum L.) of Volnoe variety for herbage production in the conditions of single-crop and mixed sowing with the leguminous crops (spring vetch (Vicia), field pea, yellow lupine (Lupinus luleus)) and spring rape (Brassica napus) in comparison with the traditional pea and oat mixture was studied in the Republic of Belarus. Research results showed that in the conditions of sod-podzolic light loamy soils of the central zone of Belarus the mixed sowings of millet with the leguminous crops and spring rape made it possible to obtain higher yields in comparison with the single-crop millet sowings. The average rate the leguminous component part in the herbage mixture was 56-60% and varied from year to year. In the condition of lack of warm and raised humidity in the mixed sowings with vetch or field pea the millet seedlings were suppressed by the leguminous seedlings and alternatively, in the conditions of dry weather the cereal component was the dominating one in the yield structure of the last mentioned crop mixtures. Analysis of the digestible protein showed that its content in the binary mixtures was on 58-128% higher that in single-crop seedlings
