Results of stationary field research of application of postharvest green manure and straw as organic fertilizers for sugar beet (Beta vulgaris var. saccharifera) cultivation on pod-podzolic sandy loam soil in the conditions of the Republic of Belarus were presented. The evaluation of yielding capacity and quality of beet-roots, as well as the influence green manures on weed infestation of crops were given. There was determined the possibility of partial replacement of manure by green manures and straw for the maintenance of level of soil fertility and for the stabilizing regulation of yielding capacity of sugar beet. Subsurface soil tillage increased its resistance to erosion process. In combination with green manures the soil gets two times less nutritive elements than with manure, and the long-term application of green manures in spite of manure could have negative effect (negative balance of humus, lowering of soil microorganisms activity, distortion of capillary structure, etc.). Application of green manures as an alternative to manure is appropriate at the fields remote from farms, where the transplantation of organic fertilizers required great financial expenses. Application of straw for fertilizing proved to be an effective method of its utilization and soil fertility with organic compounds, and which makes it possible to save the deficit-free humus balance. In regions subjected to water erosion and soil drifting the substitution of moldboard plowing with the subsurface loosening at the same depth made it possible to increase the erosion preventive resistance of soils without lowering of sugar beet productivity
