In the conditions of the Republic of Belarus there was determined the efficiency of different methods of the main soil tillage and sowing in the conditions of cultivation of winter rye (Secale cereale L.). The experiment was realized on sod-podzolic light loamy soil. Experimental design included plowing, chisel plowing, disk tillage and direct seeding, as well as application of a plowing outfits and sowing units. Research results showed that main method of soil treatment did not render substantial influence on yielding capacity of winter rye. But in the context of energy conservation it was advisable to apply surface (rill) soil tillage at depth of 10-12 centimeters. Application of direct sowing for winter rye cultivation decreased the seed yield on 3,3c/ha. In soil and climatic conditions of Belarus the most perspective tillage and sowing machinery proved to be aggregates with passive operative parts. Application of tillage and sowing machinery with dynamic operative parts in case of dry periods caused the delaying emergence of seedlings and lowering of yielding capacity.
