Linseed oil is the rich natural source of alpha-octadecatrienoic acid possessed with complex analeptic and health-giving effect. In spite of flax (Linum usitatissimum) producing, in the Republic of Belarus there is a large import ratio of linseed oil. Increase of the food linseed oil can decline import from abroad and supply the country with diet product. Screening of different varieties of long-fibre and oil-bearing flax on seed yield, oil content and fatty-acid composition has been carried out. A comparative characteristic of linseed of the main release varieties of long-fibre flax in the Republic of Belarus is presented for the period of 2007-2009. Evaluation of the seeds of oil flax is made. Such indexes as seed yield, oil content, fat and lipid content of different varieties of flax are calculated. The content of tocopherols, carotenoids and phytosterols is identified in seed oil produced from a number of flax varieties. The varieties for cultivation to produce food flax oil are recommended. The prospects for flax oil production in the Republic of Belarus are discussed.
