Using organic carbon density grouping method, the change trends of soil total organic carbon (SOC), light fraction content and light fraction organic carbon under 4 land use patterns of returning cultivated land to forest (cropland, artificial forest, inter-cropping of forest and grassland and original sample plot) in alpine agricultural region of Qinghai were studied. The content of SOC was in order: intercropping of forest and grassland original sample plot artificial forest cropland. There was significant difference between intercropping of forest and grassland, artificial forest and cropland (P 0.05). The light fraction organic carbon in soil was in order: original sample plot intercropping of forest and grassland artificial forest cropland. There was significant difference between original sample plot, artificial forest and cropland (P 0.05). The light fraction content was in order: original sample plot intercropping of forest and grassland artificial forest cropland. The reclamation of original sample plot would lead to the decrease of soil total organic carbon and light fraction organic carbon. And returning cropland to intercropping of forest and grassland and artificial forest was helpful to the increasing of capability of fixing carbon in soil.
