The Cuban Creole pig lives in semiferal conditions with periods of dry and starving conditions. They have been adapted to tropical conditions in few hundred years. It is thought that Cuban Creole pigs have an Iberian pig origin but recently have been introgressed with other breeds from Europe and USA. Nucleotide diversity for Creole individuals shows high variability and an important population structure across the island. An important number of Creole haplotypes have not yet been described. The presence of a divergent Creole haplotype related to Asian haplotypes suggests the introgression of individuals with Asiatic origin.
