The effect of sowing dates on the yield of three wheat varieties (Enkoy, Cocorit 71 and Bahir seded) sown on cambered and flat seed beds was studied in a series of experiments conducted from 1978 to 1980 at Ghinee. Results of these experiments showed that grain yield advantages of cambering ranged from 30 to 107%. Mean increases in grain yield and kernel weight were 68.8and 5.5%, respectively. Enkoy yielded significantly higher than the durum wheat varieties (Cocorit 71 and Bahir seded) on both drained and nondrained seed beds. On drained seed beds, yield differences among sowing dates were not significant. On flat seed beds, however, the yield differences among sowing dates were significant. In general, early sowing (June 27) produced high yield for the bread wheat variety (Enkoy)The kernel weight of this variety was not affected by early sowing Hence early sowing is recommended for Enkoy. On the other hand the kernel weight of thedurum wheat varieties increased consistently when sowing was done late (after last week of July). Hence late sowing was recommended for durum wheats in Ghinchi where plump seeds command high market prices.
