Environmental education increases public awareness and knowledge of environmental issues and challenges. Through education, people gain an understanding of how their individual actions affect the environment, acquire skills that they can use to weigh various sides of issues, and become better equipped to make informed decisions. Environmental education also gives people a deeper understanding of the environment, inspiring them to take personal responsibility for its preservation and restoration. In urban areas, green spaces are often lacking thus natural environments for educational programmes are often scarce. The sense of stewardship towards nature conservation should be inculcated in everyone and the sense of remoteness from nature should be reduced. Thus, communities need to be aware of the importance of natural areas in their living environment even in urban settings. It is important to realize the need for environmental education programm e in the urban community to raise awareness of the deteriorating environment, it's importance and to encourage the public to play it's role in nature protection. This paper aims to highlight the uniqueness of Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve as a patch of tropical forest in the middle of a cosmopolitan city as a unique urban heritage suitable for the implementation of environmental education programmes.
