Response of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) to potassium application and planting geometry
2007
Akram, M.
Wheat variety Inqalab-91 was sown as a test crop. The crop was sown by 20 cm spaced single rows planting and 20 x 20 cm cross planting while the potassium levels were 0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 kg per ha. The experiment was laid out in split plot design randomizing the potassium levels in main plots and planting method in sub plots. The net plot size was 2.4m x 7.0 m. Wheat crop was sown on 3rd week of November with the help of single row hand drill using a seed rate of 125 kg per ha, results shows that the effect of planting geometry was significant on number of tillers m-2 of wheat leaf area index (LAI), plant height, spike length, number of spikelets per spike, number of grains per spike, 1000-grain weight, biological yield and grain yield of wheat. Cross planting (20x20 cm) exhibited superior performance over 20 cm spaced single row planting for the above mentioned crop parameters. Cross planting (20x20 cm) produced more grain yield (3.90 t per ha) than 20 cm spaced single
