Insect pests cause a huge damage, to cotton plants so there is a need to develop insect resistant varieties. Frego bract is an important insect resistant trait in upland cotton. It is a mutant type of floral bract. Insects do not prefer to lay eggs on this type of cotton bract because it is narrow in shape and does not provide protection to the eggs; hence, there is a less build up: of insect population. However, a very few frego bract varieties have been produced in the world due to certain misconceptions associated with this trait. It is said that the frego bract lines are low yielding, have low rate of net photosynthesis, are late in maturity and produce low quality fibre. The objective of the present study was to study the effects of frego bract mutation on other agronomically important traits of Upland cotton.
