Effect of zinc toxicity on some biochemical and physiological aspects of sunflower [Helianthus annuus (L.)]
2007
Naz, K.
The experiment was conducted to study the influence of heavy metal zinc on plant height, shoot and root weight and cations accumulation in two sunflower cultivars, i.e. Parsun-2 and Alioli. During the course of study different attributes like plant growth, ions accumulation and metal content were studied. Data was collected at maturity of crop. The data about different parameters was analyzed by applying analysis of variance techniques. Duncan's New Multiple Range Test was used to compare the means of varieties, treatments and VxT interactions. The results regarding with plant height, fresh and dry weight of plant parts, number of achene and weight of achene per capitulum's indicated a progressive decline under zinc chloride stress conditions. All the treatments significantly influenced the morphology and yield attributes of both sunflower cultivars. A decline was noted in different parameters as the zinc level increased in growth medium. Parsun-2 showed better tolerance res
