The effect of feeding intensity of pregnant and lactation sows on their reproductive indices, meat quality and fattening results of progeny

It is concluded that introduction in the initial pregnancy period of mixture with a higher than standard concentration of energy and content of protein had a positive effect on the birth weight of the piglets and did not adversely affect sow condition through overfat carcasses. Ad libitum feeding of lactating sows with a feed mixture containing more protein and energy than the standard mixture clearly limited the loss of body weight and adipose tissue in the sows. Higher weight gains of progeny reared by these sows , higher weaning weights of the piglets and lower mortality were also observed. Ad libitum feeding of lactating sows with mixtures containing higher energy and protein levels had no negative effect on sows' body condition, shortened the period between weaning and mating, and improved parameters in the next reproductive cycle
