Effect of nitrogen fertilization on the content and uptake of N in the maize lines | Uticaj doza azota na sadržaj i iznošenje azota linijama kukuruza

Research was conducted at a multiyear stationary field experiment owned by the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad (Serbia) at the location of Srbobran. The purpose of the study was to investigate the content and uptake of N by six corn inbred lines belonging to different FAO maturity groups depending from nitrogen fertilization. The average N content in plant material for all corn lines tested and all variants of fertilization during the four years trial was 1%. The yearly nitrogen uptake by grain, cob and stalk depended on corn line, quantity of nitrogen fertilizer applied, as well as from the year of experiment. The shape of the curve of the effect of nitrogen fertilizer applied on the amount of nitrogen uptake by grain was characteristics for quadratic regression.
