The effect of biofertilizer was observed in two experimental plots. One experimental plot was compacted (headland), whereas the other one was regulary tilled. Into one half of each plot, a microbiological fertilizer (biofertilizer) was introduced. The effect of biofertilizer on the total number of microorganisms, fungi, actinomycetes and azotobacter was determined in the phase of intensive growth of barley (march) and in the phase of maturing (june) at the depths of 0-30 cm and 30-60 cm. The grain yield was determined at the end of vegetation. The use of biofertilizer increase the total number of microorganisms, fungi and azotobacter, whereas the number of actinomycetes was somewhat smaller. The total number of microorganisms was greater in non-compacted soil and in spring, whereas the other three groups of microorganisms were more numerous in the compcted soil and in maturing phase of barley . The number of all the examined microorganisms was greater at the depth of 0-30 cm. The yield of barley in the plots into wich a biofertilizer was introduced was geater by 6,5% in the central part of the plot and by 14,5% in the headland.
