Investment-analysis of bioethanol-plants in Hungary

The application of renewable materials in energy production is gaining in importance all over the world. There had been developed numerous project for bioethanol-production in Hungary, but most of them had failed, due to low level of return of investment. The aim of current article is to determine the economic aspects of bioethanol projects under conditions of Hungary. The total costs of bioethanol production is between 470 and 630 EUR/cubic meter, influenced of numerous factors. This is in line with the average European values. There seems to be a rather limited possibility of considerable decreasing of the production costs, because its two most important components are the raw material costs and the energy. The indicators of return of investment are the most favourable in case of small-scale, farm based ethanol plants, producing DSG as a by-product with a simple technology, and in case of extremely large-capacity plants.
