Our studies included changes in the total number of leukocytes and platelets, as well as changes in the leukocyte formula in Prussian carp (Carassius gibelio) which were exposed to the influence of stress due to fish-catching, manipulation, transport and overdensity. Special attention is paid to cytochemical characterization of these cell types by applying Myeloperoxidase, Periodic Acid Schiff and Sudan Black B staining of Prussian carp. Comparison and analysis of the examined parameters in Prussian carp that were not exposed to stress factors as those that were, indicates the existence of significant differences of some parameters. In Prussian carp after exposure to these stress factors, there was a significant reduction in the total number of platelets and lymphocytes and the increase is determined by number of neutrophil. Significant differences in the total number of leukocytes and in the number of monocytes were not observed. Obtained reference intervals and morphological appearance provide a basis for further research of the function and blood cell changes in Prussian carp, while fast cytochemical staining represents efficient methods for differentiation of different types of white blood cells in fish. Deviation from the established norms for the above mentioned hematological parameters allowed to determine the presence of stress reaction and partly its intensity.
