The toxicity of insecticides (malathion, pyrimiphos-methyl and lambda-cyhalothrine, formulated as CS and WP) and their persistence was determined in laboratory conditions, depending on the nature of treated surface (glass, ceramics, galvanized steel sheet, plywood and concrete), using rice weevil (Sithophilus oryzae) as a test insect. Malathion toxicity after 60 minutes of exposure was significantly higher (more than three times) on glass and ceramics than on galvanized steel sheet, and after 150 minutes significantly higher (eight times) on concrete than on plywood. Pyrimifos-methyl also showed significantly higher toxicity on glass and galvanized steel sheet, after 60 minutes, and after 165 minutes it was two times more toxic on concrete than on plywood. CS formulation of lambda-cyhalothrine, after 60 minutes exposure, reached the highest toxicity on concrete, significantly lower on galvanized steel sheet and ceramics and the lowest on glass. An outstanding persistence, up to 180 days, was registered on glass and ceramics surfaces, regardless of insecticide quantity and formulation. The same persistence (180 days) was noted for malathion and lambda-cyhalothrine (CS and WP) on galvanized steel sheet, while in the case of pyrimiphos-methyl it was up to 150 days. On plywood, the persistence was 180 days for pyrimiphos-methyl and malathion, while on the other hand, the efficacy of lambda-cyhalothrine started reducing after 120 days, and was decreased by 50% on the last day of the reading (day 180). On concrete surface, only the action of lambda-cyhalothrine CS was registered during the entire period of 120 days, but the insecticidal effect of others decreased and ceased between 7 and 14 days.
