Zadruga is a form of extended family, originating in customary law, composed of a number of blood relatives living and working together at the common household estate. It was a dominant family structure in all South Slavic states in the 19th century. The rules of customary law regarding Zadruga, as well as the normative solutions in laws concerning Zadrugas enacted in South Slavic states in the 19th century are presented and critically analyzed in dissertation. Frequent divisions of extended families are pointed out, followed by explanations for them.
