In 2008 and 2009 a research is conducted in order to determine the virus status of 7 most commonly cultivated pepper varieties on open fields in Republic of Macedonia. It is established that pepper plants cultivated on open fields are infected by plant viruses. Most of the tested seedlings are virus free, but in some seedlings PVY infections are found. During the vegetation, in the tested areas pepper plants are mostly infected by CMV, while the infections by AMV, TMV, TSWV and PVY are less present. Virus infection by PVX is not found in any of the collected samples.
