Mixed forests of conifers and broadleaves (fir/beech, fir/spruce/beech and fir/ spruce) in Serbia, most often of selection structural form, are one of the most valuable parts of the growing stock, as they are recent communities, residues of polydominant stand categories. They cover 3% of the total forest territory. Strategic issues in the management of these forests are: 1) to conserve and improve the mixture, 2) to conserve and improve the sustainable selection structure, 3) to increase the stocking percent, and 4) to increase volume in the aim of approaching the proposed optimum.
