An assessment of black and red currant was done by a degree of affection by American powdery mildew (Sphaerotheca mors-uvae), anthracnose (Pseudopeziza ribis) (AN), septoriosis (Septoria ribis) (SP) and by a degree of damage by currant gall mite (Cecidophyopsis ribis) (GM) and spider mite (Tetranychus urticae) (SM) for a bush (BT) and an espalier technologies of cultivation (ET). The experiments were hold in the Tambov Region in 2007-2009 with the follow cultivars of black currant: Belarusskaya Sladkaya, Malen'kij Prints, Tamerlan, Titaniya and of red currant: Viksne, Dutch Pink, Jonker van Tets, Imperatorskaya Zheltaya, Krasnaya Kuzmina, Nenaglyadnaya, Fertile Currant of Palnau, Smol'yaninovskaya. Black currant affection by AN and SP was lower at ET than at BT (for Titanija, by 0.6 and 0.7 points respectively) and also damage by GM was lower (Male'kij Prints, by 0.4 points). The ET reduced infestation by AN of the follow red currant cultivars: Viksne (0.3 points), Jonker van Tets (0.3 points), Krasnaya Kuzmina (1.3 points), Fertile Currant of Palnau (0.3 points), Smol'yaninovskaya (0.7 points). It reduced infestation by SP of Smol'yaninovskaya (by 0.7 points). The ET reduced damages of red currant by GM by 0.3 (Viksne, Dutch Pink) and by 0.7 points (Smol'yaninovskaya). The conclusion has been made that ET increases resistamce of black and red currant to diseases and pests in compare with BT.
