Imidacloprid is the common name of the insecticides Midas and Akoprid. It belongs to a new chemical group, the neonicotinoids. Chemically it is: 1-(6-chloro-3-pyridylmethyl)-N-nitroimidazoldin-2-ylideneamine. Imidacloprid has an exellent systemic activity and acts as a contact and stomach poison. It has a broad-spectrum activity especially against sucking insects and low mammalian toxicity. Imidacloprid can be applied as foliar, soil treatment and seed dressing. Imidacloprid formulated as Midas 17.8 % SL and Akoprid 200 SL was evaluated by Gamal A. Fadl in seasons 2006/07 and 2007/08 for the control of termites and green scale in date palm
