The aim of the research was to investigate the relationships among the body condition score, live weight, milk production, and the length of lactation in highly productive Holstein dairy cattle; and the effect of a diet with non-protein nitrogen (NPN) Optigen (Alltech Inc., USA) content. In total, 210 records of 30 dairy cows were used in the analyses. The experimental cows were fed by the same ration as those in the control group, with the replacement of 1 kg per day of vegetal protein (soybean meal and potentially other protein sources) by 100 g per day of commercially produced NPN source for ruminants. As it was expected, in the group of cows fed by NPN there was observed higher milk yield in the first 100 days, and an increase of body condition and BW in later lactation. The differences between both groups were analyzed by estimation of nonlinear fixed regression trend. Parity significantly (P lt 0.001) influenced the results, where the coefficients of determination varied between 22.45% in BCS, or 22.67% in M, and 32.23% in BW.
