The effects of high temperature and long term conditioning of wheat and corn diets on digestibility of starch in broilers

The optimal feeding of commercial broilers during their growing period is difficult because of the interacting factors that influence the growth and food intake of the birds. Two different experimental diets were developed to study the effects of high temperature, the addition of moisture up to 5.5%, and the long - term conditioning on gelatinisation of starch and performances of broilers fed with such meals. High temperature, addition of moisture and long - term conditioning had a significant impact on starch gelatinisation. Gelatinisation in the meals that were subjected to heat and log – term conditioning was higher (wheat 18.37% and maize/corn 18.96%) than the one found in ordinary processed feed. The results of this experimental study did not show any differences in gain, feed per gain or apparent metabolisable energy content for the broilers.
