In course of the research there was studied the varietal response of buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) to application of Seron retardant. The research was realized in the conditions of the Republic of Belarus in 2008-2009 on sod-podzolic light loamy soil. The agrochemical indicators of arable horizon were: humus content - 1.9-2.1%, pHKCl - 5.9-6.5, P2O5 - 290-330 mg/kg, K2O - 250-310 mg/kg of soil. Spring cereals were preceding crop. Seron - retardant (water solution), which contained 480 g/l of ethephon (a complex substance, derivative from phosphonic acid). The results of the application of retardant Seron containing 480 g/l of ethephon on indeterminate buckwheat varieties of different ploidy were presented. It has been established that there was varietal specificity in dependence on the variety. Application of Seron retardant led to the reduction of the length of the first and second internodes while plant height remained at the level of the control. Differences in the reaction to the retardant application were in the dose of the preparation when it was used in the phase of the first true leaf. The optimum dose for tetraploid variety was 1.0 l/ha, for diploid one - 0.5 l/ha.
