In course of the research there were studied the varieties of different morphotype, breeding of pea (Pisum) varieties for forage and food purposes in the Scientific and Practical Center of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for Arable Farming. The selected research was realized on the trial fields of the Scientific and Practical Center for Arable Farming (Minsk region) on sod-podzolic light loamy soil. Trial plot was characterized by the basic agronomical indices: pH – 6.14; mobile phosphorous 210-290 mg/kg and exchange potassium 270-375 mg/kg of soil; humus content – 2.2-2.5%. The peculiarities of formation of biomass and seeds in different pea morphotypes in some periods of ontogenesis and the relationship between the development of overground parts and root system were shown. The experimental data proved many statements that leaf pea varieties exceed leafless ones in the development of root system. The results of competitive variety testing of the best pea variety samples for the last three years were given. A brief description of new pea varieties which were being tested in the State Variety Trial or were going to be transferred there was presented.
