Potato (Solanum tuberosum) is one of the most important cultivars in the Republic of Belarus. Number and quality of the crop yield depend on different reasons, one on which is Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata say) protection. Larvae of the pest destroy potato leaves declining crop yield level. Nowadays the most effective insecticides are new-nicotinoids, equal to natural alkaloid nicotine by chemical composition. But efficiency of new-nicotinoids declines in course of time because of ability of Colorado potato beetle to detoxication. Pests are able to develop resistance to definite insecticides. This is a reason of the developing of new forms of insecticides, principally different from the old forms. Derivatives of sterols, content 3-beta, 5-alpha, 6-beta-triols and 3-beta, 5-dihydroxy-6-ketone groups, are known as biologically active natural compounds. Some of these substances possess cytotoxic, insecticide and phyto-inhibitive action. Evaluation of toxic activity of 3-beta, 5-alpha, 6-beta-triols and 3-beta,5-dihydroxy-6-ketone derivatives on larvae of potato beetle is made. The insecticidal effect of the steroidal 3-beta, 5-alpha, 6-beta-triols and 3-beta, 5-dihydroxy-6-ketone derivatives containing alpha-chloropyridine fragment on Colorado beetle larvae Leptinotarsa decemlineata say (Coleoptera) has been studied. Several of the compounds have been found to possess high insecticidal activity.
