In the article the research of small and medium business in the Republic of Belarus is made. The basic economic indicators of the activities of the small and medium-sized enterprises for 2007-2010 are considered. The research is made on the basis of data, the main problems of effective development of small and medium-sized enterprises, which break its development, are identified. In course of the study there was presented statistical analysis of indexes of economic development of small and medium-sized businesses; their quantity in agro-industrial branch, etc. Research results showed, that number of subjects of small and medium-sized business enterprises in Belarus was constantly growing , as well as there was improvement of indexes of their production and financial activities, growth of their rate in gross domestic product of the country. This was taking place due to the fact that for mentioned above subjects of economics there were created favourable conditions and prerequisites for their further development. However, alongside with the positive moments of small and medium-sized enterprises activities there was marked a lot of unsolved problems which prevent their further efficient development and require prompt reaction.
