In the conditions of the Republic of Belarus there were analyzed some aspects of a problem of crushing afterharvesting residues of grain and rough grasses and forage crops during the postharvest treatment of soil. There was presented a review of perspective foreign means of mechanization and machinery and results of analysis of design, development and experimental testing of a universal trailed shredding (cutting) machine. There was given analysis of spheres of its possible application for reduction of the expenses for the given operation. The performance testing of the new national cutting machine showed that it was able to cut and to grind paryicles of 50-100 millimeters of leguminous crops and cereal grass stands, corn stalks with height up to 1500 millimeters, potato and beet tops. The advantages of the machine were that it could pick up and grind straw swaths, afterharvesting residues of corn, sunflower, rape, as welkl as it was able to upload the grinded mass into trailer storage tank.
