In course of the research there was studied the variety differences in lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) according to the indicators of productivity and accumulation of 137Cs and nitrates in leaves on sod-podzolic sandy soil contaminated by 137Cs in the conditions of the Republic of Belarus in 2006–2009. Research was realized on a trial field on the conditions of Slavgorod in Mogilev region on sandy soil. Its density of radioactive pollution by 137Cs made 487 kBq/square m (13.2 Curie/square m), pH = 5.0, humus content - 17%, P2O5 - 85 mg/kg of soil, K2O - 138 mg/kg of soil. It was selected varieties which combined high productivity and minimal accumulation of 137Cs, and examined specific character of nitrates accumulation by varieties. Fertilizers were applied before crops in dose N60P80K120. For each of the studied varieties it was calculated the critical density of soil contamination by 137Cs. If contamination was higher than the critical one, it was not recommended to grow the crop. The dependence of 137Cs accumulation on the productivity and conditions of the growing season was also established.
