In Vitro callus formation and plant regeneration of Silyaum marianum, L. gaertn

The present study was carried out to investigate the effect of plant growth regulators and type of explant on the callus formation and plant regeneration. Hypocotyl was the most convenient explant for callus formation. MS medium supplemented with 1 mg/I NAA + 0.1 mg/I BA showed the highest callus fresh weight in light condition (16 h/day at 6000 Lux). Direct regeneration (shoot formation) was achieved by cotyledonary node explant alone on MS medium supplemented with 2, 3, 4 mg/I BA in light condition. The best shoot formation was recorded on MS medium containing 3 mg/I BA. Root formation for regenerated shoot was superior in 1 mg/I NAA.
