Collection ¡ identification and establishment of different Salix species collections in west azarbaijan province.

Salix species due to having importance in stabilization of river channel, using up medicinal providing of fuel and grasses are because of accomplishment such as this projects. This survey was carried out during 2002-2006 , in order to preservation of species, clones and Genetic resources of west Azarbaijan province . Salix species were collected from all of habitat of this province and after identification , from each of species . Number of 30 cuttings were prepared and cultivated . In second year , from each Salix species ,9 number of male and female trees were selected and cultivated in the trees and shrubs groups ,with(3*3)m distance(base on cultivation plan). Thickness and length growth and also species phenology were recorded . irrigation were carried out once ten years and other doing preservation such as weeds control and chemical controls of pests and diseases were conducted . This collection were establishmented in research station Saatloo in Urmia and other survey such as morphology , phenology and determining of ecological needs of species and Salix clones were done in this collection . In this project , 86 number of samples belong to 14 species indentified from different location of west Azarbaijan province . This species are : Salix alba Salix excelsa Salix elbursiensis Salix wilhelmsiana Salix acmophylla Salix triandra subsp. triandra Salix fragilis Salix psuedomedemi Salix cinerea Salix pycnostachya Salix aegyptiaca Salix caprea Salix babylonica Salix babylonica var. tortosa
