Khouzestan Province with 63000 hectares of vegetables cultivation is one of the important places for vegetables production in Iran. Okra is one of these vegetables, cultivated in 1900 hectares with yield five ton/ha. Which is due to its short shelf life in Khouzestan and lack of farmer information about post harvest cases, lost its marketing in a short period after harvesting. This research was conducted in split factorial experiment in complete randomized design with three replication during 2007-2008. Main plots were consisted of spraying with sodium hypochlorite in four levels and packaging in two levels and sub-plots was including storage time in four levels. Treatments were maintained in normal warehouse and cold storage (temperature 7-10 ºC and humidity 90-95 percent) conditions. Quantitative and qualitative experiments were down on samples from each condition in different storage times. Results showed that sprayed okra with sodium hypochlorite (100 ppm) in warehouse condition and packed in pored plastic bags kept for 5-6 days with loss weight, color changes and microbial contamination, reduced while moisture and sugar content were preserved. Sprayd samples with 100_200 ppm sodium hypochlorite concentration In Cold storage condition and packed in pored plastic bags kept for 12 days with favorable quantitative and qualitative characteristics and also could be kept up to 18 days with marketable trials
