Study on fiber characteristics of Lory goat at different ages and seasons

In this research age and season effect on fiber characteristics in native Lori goats were studied. In this purpose 90 female Lori native goats 1 to 3 ages (30 goats for each ages) were selected for one year. Fiber samples were collected from the right mid-side in spring, summer, autumn and winter. The mean of fiber diameter, staple length, coefficient variation of fiber diameters and percentage of fiber type at different ages and seasons were measured. The data were analyzed by General Linear Model (GLM) using SAS soft ware package. Results indicated that the highest thickness diameter down fiber was at summer in 2 years old (18.08±1.18µ) and lowest at winter in one year (14.02±0.28µ). The highest coefficient variation of down fiber diameter in yearling goats at winter (23.33±0.87 percentage) and lowest in 3 years old goats at autumn (19.84±1.02 percentage) were observed. The highest thickness of hair diameters was 93.45±1.40µ in 3 years old does at summer and lowest 82.09±1.68µ in yearling goat at winter. Highest coefficient variation of hair diameter in yearling goats at winter (23.92±0.73 percentage) and lowest in yearling goats at summer (18.26±1.17 percentage) were measured. The highest staple length of fiber in 3 years old goats at winter (7.57±0.2cm) and lowest yearling old goats at summer (4.06±0.21cm) were observed. Lowest cashmere percentage and highest hair percentage were obtained at summer for one year goat (0.85±0.33 per) and three years old goat at autumn season (4.12±0.82 per).
