Study of chemical control of dodder (Cuscuta campestris) using registered herbicides in sugarbeet (Beta vulgaris) under controlled and natural conditions

In this study, the chemical control of dodder (Cuscuta campestris) was studied using registered herbicides in sugarbeet. So, the effect of chloridasone (Pyramin WP 80%) 4.5 kg/ha, Metamitron (Goltix WP 70%), Phenmediphan+ Desmediphan+Ethfumesate (Betanalprogress of EC 18%), Chlopyralid (Lontrel O.7 L/ha), Glyphosate (Roundup EC 48%) 50, 100, and 150 ml/ha were studied on dodder chemical control as a randomized complete block design with 8 treatments and 4 replications in greenhouse and 3 replications in the sugarbeet field. The effect of the treatments on dry weight reduction percentages of dodder, dry weight enhancement percentage and tuber weight of sugarbeet were estimated. The results both in the greenhouse and the field indicated that the efficacy of herbicide treatments was more before dodder attachment than after its attachment. In greenhouse conditions, the herbicides, except Glyphosate 150 ml/ ha, had no phytotoxicity on sugarbeet. The most effective treatment on dodder control was chloridasone 4.5 kg/ha before dodder attachment. In the field the best treatment on dodder control was Glyphosate 150 ml/ ha. However, due to its toxicity on sugarbeet, Glyphosate 100 ml/ha is recommended.
