Identification of physiomorphological indices related to drought tolerance in bread wheat

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the physiomorphological characteristics in 20 bread advanced wheat genotypes in dryland agricultural research sub-institute at two cropping season. The experimental design was RCBD in 3 replications, under rainfed and supplemental irrigation. Traits such as stress tolerance Index( STI), Leaf water potential, Cell stability membrane at seedling stage, amount of proline accumulation, excised leaf water retention, relative water content, total chlorophyll ,a chlorophyll and b chlorophyll, germination index in PEG ( GSI) and rate of germination( PI), number of rootlet and coleoptile length were measured. Indices such as GSI and PI had positive correlation with drought tolerance index( STI).
