Genetic variability is a prerequisite of improving any crop plant in breeding programs. Being cultivated for a long in specific region, local varieties are adopted to that specific climatic condition. They also carry many useful genes, which can be used in breeding programs. The present study was undertaken to identify the genotypes with desirable traits among local wheat genotypes belonged to the west part of Iran. Total of 88 genotypes along with local durum wheat as a check, The check variety was repeated after every 25 entries. Each entry was sown in 2 rows of 2.5 long. During the crop season different agronomic traits were recorded. Seed characteristics were recorded after harvesting. Based on the results, 55 lines were selected The selected entries will be further studied in the next season. From each entry, 5 spikes were also selected to grow as head to row to produce pure lines. Some entries were also selected as parents for use in crossing block.
